For anybody who is willing, the possibility is open

“This is who I am” “I can’t change my behaviour” “He’s a jerk” “I’m a failure” “You are so pathetic”…….Does it sound familiar?
Well, it’s a very common thing that we tend to label everything and everyone around us, including ourselves.

These tendencies are biased perspectives, in which we assign judgments of value to ourselves or to others based on one instance or experience. We focus on particular aspects of an experience (often the ‘negative’ ones) and ignore other aspects – thereby “distorting” our view of the world.

Every time when we do that, we force the world full of possibilities, options and ideas into just two choices – bad or good, black or white, like or dislike, success or failure, this or that, etc…. you name it. We’ve never realised that we limited our life through the unconscious choices that we made based on the limiting beliefs.

Think about it for a while, if you like someone, you will exaggerate them in your mind. If you dislike someone, for sure you will exaggerate them in your mind. When we do so, we are unable to see things as the way they are. And if we are unable to see things as they are, we can never handle life the way it should be handled.

People are usually unaware of how they distort their experience with the words they use. Labelling does not only limit our choices, but can lead to unnecessary suffering and frustration – and sometimes even make a situation worse when we act on incorrect assumptions.

So how can we do differently?
💫 Open our hearts and get curious about that person, this experience, even ourselves.
💫 Watch out the languages we use to express.
💫 Ask ourselves these questions:
1. What other options/ways are there of looking at this?
2. What other possibilities/explanations/ideas are there that I haven’t thought of yet?
3. What are the good qualities of this person that I haven’t realised yet?

Remember: for anybody who is willing, the possibility is open if you make the right choices – conscious choices.
